How Gatvol My Bru works

Honest reviews only work if you can trust them. So here's exactly how we run things. No fine print, no funny business.

🚫 Businesses can't pay to hide reviews

Not ever, not for any amount. A business can claim its page and respond to reviews, and it can pay for unlimited responses. But no business can delete, hide or change a review, and paying never changes its score. We only remove a review if it breaks our rules, for example if it's fake, hateful, or shares someone's private details. We never remove a review just because it's negative.

😤➡️😎 How the score works

Every review gives a business a score from 1 (proper gatvol) to 10 (absolute lekker). A business's score is simply the average of all its review scores, rounded to a whole number. No secret formula, and no extra weight for paying customers.

• 1 to 3: 😤 Proper gatvol
• 4 to 6: 🤷 Ja-nee
• 7 to 10: 😎 Lekker, bru!

If a business sorts out a problem and the reviewer changes their score, we show both the old and new score, so you can see the whole story. Turn a gatvol review into a lekker one, and you earn the 🔄 Comeback Kid badge.

🙋 Real people, one review each

• You need an account with a confirmed email address to write a review.
• One review per person per business. You can edit yours, and if you do, readers see that it was edited.
• Owners can't review their own business, and they can't mark reviews of their own business as helpful.
• Next to each review you'll see how many reviews that person has written and when they joined, so you can judge for yourself.

🏪 Claimed businesses

When a business claims its page, we contact them to check that they really work there before we approve it. A ✔ Claimed by the business line means we've done that check. Claimed businesses can respond to reviews, so you get both sides of the story.

👍 Helpful votes

If a review helped you decide, tap 👍 Helpful. You can sort reviews by "Most helpful first" to see the ones other people found most useful. You can't vote for your own review.

🏅 Reviewer pages and badges

Tap any reviewer's name to see all their reviews, how many people found them helpful, and their badges. Like someone's taste? Follow them, and their new reviews show up in your Following feed.

• 🌱 New voice: wrote their first review
• 🔥 Regular: 10 reviews
• 🏆 Local legend: 25 reviews and 50 helpful votes from other people
• 💚 Lekker spreader: 10 lekker shout-outs (reviews of 8 or more)

Badges can't be bought, and only other people's 👍 votes count, so a Local legend really earned it. Rather keep to yourself? You can hide your reviewer page from your profile.

🚩 Spotted something dodgy?

Every review and comment has a 🚩 Report link. Tell us what's wrong and we'll look at it, usually within 5 working days. That includes businesses: if you think a review about you is fake or untrue, report it, and we'll check it fairly.

💚 Lekker counts as much as gatvol

We're not just a complaints board. Give a legend a Lekker shout-out, thank the staff member who went the extra mile, and help good businesses get noticed.
